Forest Bathing in Africa
In this beautiful practice the guide leads a walk of approximately 2 hours and introduces different ways of connecting to nature deeply using your many senses. The distance of the walk can be tailored to your requirements. The walk is between 1.5 and 3km. Backed by research, Forest Bathing has many physiological as well as psychological and spiritual benefits. Some of these include regulating blood pressure, reducing the body’s physiological stress response, improving immunity, improving attention and focus, and improving mood and personal sense of wellbeing.
African Opulence: Pioneering Forest Bathing in South Africa
4 Components of Forest Bathing
Breathwork
“Breathing is not the same as being alive. A great number of people breathe but never live”- Unknown
How we breathe has a profound effect on both our physical and mental health. Most of our breathing habits are unconscious. By becoming conscious of our breathing, and intentional about how we breath we can positively change both our physical and emotional health.
Relaxation and Meditation Techniques
Our bodies are very well designed and evolved to cope with sudden stress.
However, when stress becomes longer term, our bodies remain in the active stress response state, which causes many of today’s stress related disease of our bodies, minds and souls. Learning simple relaxation techniques helps us move from a constant stress state to a calmer state.
Sensory Assessment and Living Sensationally
“First we sense, then we feel, then we think”- Dr Annamarie Lombard.
The effect our senses have on our brains can be either energising or depleting, stimulating or irritating, focusing or distracting, calming or overwhelming. This practice helps to channel energising, stimulating, focusing and calming senses by exposing them to the power of being surrounded by nature and forest.
Stress Management
“Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but gets you nowhere”- Erma Bombeck.
Stress management strategies manage and reduce the stress response in the moment, as well as sustainably over time. This results in better focus and concentration, more clarity for effective decision making and more consistent performance throughout the day.
